My partnerās grandma always overfilled her coffee, but somehow she could just instantly drink freshly brewed coffee immediately after pouring it. Like steaming, extremely hot coffee. Iāve still never seen anything like it, I have no idea how she didnāt burn herself every single time. She also brewed the strongest coffee Iāve still ever had.

I definitely struggle with carrying certain beverages that are filled up. Tea, even with milk is a bit too thin to avoid wobbling enough to spill. I generally will just use a large mug for tea made with a bag. I used to have these ceramic baby cows to pour milk with, but I just use whatever little vessel is around if I feel like bringing milk with me. (also a big fan of just bringing the whole tea pot and a small cup with me to participate more actively in the ritual and also to help keep it hot by not pouring too much at once.)
this thread popping up while i'm here, standing in a kitchen, drinking a cup of tea, makes me realize that i always (or nearly always) drink my hot beverages standing in the room i made them in.
so here is the solution to the problem of carrying cups of hot liquid around, you need only seize it.
@āpasquinelliā#p107001 I can only relax if I go to a second place, so this solution will sadly not work for me!
It probably helps that I never drink black tea with milk anymore but my solution to overfilling a mug was to get ball-shaped infusers for loose leaf tea. Depending on the size of the mug Iāll typically have a 1cm safe zone once the infuser is taken out. Not that I use tea bags very often at home anymore but taking a bag out will give me the same safe zone unless Iām using a really wide mug.
Word of warning on decaffeinated teas - many will still have some trace caffeine in them. A herbal tea is ideal for bed time since they're made from different plants.

@āLeFishā#p107003 yeahhhh the tea ball safety zone is one I've employed!! Very handy.
And I normally drink tea in the morning and midday so I'm generally safe, but I do know decaf tea has a little bit of caffeine in it. I'm kinda hoping it'll build my tolerance back up somehow.
I bought a box of what I thought were just fruit teas, and for about a week every time I steeped a cup Iād go āthis is really bitter fruit tea!ā On closer inspection, theyāre fruit + black tea blends, and there went my caffeine allowance for the next month.
I used to fill to the tip, until I released I basically never actually finish a cup of tea (always leave at least a sip or two). I was able to convince myself that if I didnāt over fill the mug, Iād drink the same amount of tea and then actually finish the mug. No spilling, no guilt over wasted tea. Now I finish the whole mug not-uncommonly.
