I self-edit compulsively + I was making phone calls + I ate lunch + I watched a full season of I Think You Should Leave + I deleted four paragraphs because I didn’t wanna do four paragraphs of armchair game design and ruin my good standing on the forum
I will say it is my sincere belief that “metroidvanias” in 2025 are as bad as the Ubisoft open-world game ever was
Also these fighting game posts are making me so sad :((((
The other fighting game believers itt and I can teach all of you
We’re at the point in the forums’ history when there’s been enough time and community turnover that a few threads have repeated themselves, and we’re somewhat inclined to just let people make new threads. I considered formally asking the community what we all think about this posture, and am open to either possibility.
I’ll take responsibility for that. Not for the rules (I love rules and I love making you all read rules I make up) but I probably started that thread off with a weird energy by hating on Outer Wilds
It’s too bad that discourse doesn’t intelligently sub in K for C when searching things that begin with the letter C, as is Kustom. I mean, come on, how could they be not aware of the needs of gamers
I think the forum is just full of people wanting to listen and hear people out, rather than yell at others for “bad takes.” Seems like majority of people here are secure in their gaming preferences.
Oh I didn’t mean to say that your previous thread did devolve. I’m just saying like, “say that opinion everyone dislikes” usually doesn’t go well, y’know?
Yeah I had to stop playing chess with that guy because he’d put me in check, but not say anything, so if I didn’t notice I was in check he’d just wave his arms around and look pissed. Super annoying
I do need to come back to Lightning Returns someday, honestly. I never finished it because I wasn’t jiving with the battle system, but I do kinda feel like I owe it to my girl Claire
Twilight Princess being my favorite ultimately comes down to it feeling more story-driven (particularly in the sense of character stories) than most Zelda games. Typically, story exists in them out of what feels like necessity: there needs to be a set-up and context for the player’s adventure but otherwise Zelda games are typically more about experiences rather than narratives
The presence of Midna as a sidekick that isn’t just a game mechanic (like Navi from Ocarina of Time), but rather a figure you come to know over the course of the game created an experience like no other Zelda game for me. I still think about the way the ending hit me when I played the game however many years ago, whereas I rarely think about most other Zelda titles
Or maybe it’s just because I thought she was hot in her “human” form
I haven’t been a part of this forum for long, but I immediately get the vibe that people are incredibly chill and nice to each other. If I hear an opinion that I disagree strongly with I just end up being curious instead of angry. And I get the impression that many people here feel the same.
Leave that for the uncontroversial opinion thread, or perhaps the hottest Zelda character thread which is yet to come (let’s see, human form Midna, Sidon, Purah in Tears of the Kingdom…)
