A thread in which to introduce oneself

Friend, if that’s your dog in that profile pic, I’m gonna need to see more dog!

Hi everyone! I’ve been listening to Insert Credit for a long time and decided to actually interact with all the amazing people in this community. So stoked to see that the game club this month is Attack of the Friday Monsters!

My name is Mitch and I have loved playing and discussing games my whole life. I’m a huge JRPG, Dreamcast and SNES fan. I also have super fond memories of late 90s/early 2000s PC gaming before I fell off that. But if you specifically want to talk about U.N. Squadron for the SNES or Chaos Overlords for the Mac/PC, I’m your guy!

I’m Everett! I like making music, writing, and sometimes do short film stuff. Also, I played a lot of Wario Ware DIY growing up so I guess you could say I’m a pro game designer as well ;) I’m studying jazz guitar in Montreal rn. Also I have a cute dog

My Holy Trinity of Games is Ocarina of Time 3D, Hotline Miami, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (the DS version).

Big fan of the pod! Having Ash on full time now has been great! I’ve lurked on the forums a bit in the past, looking forward to actually participating now!

hi i’m kuu

i spent most of my adult life as a talk show producer and sometimes host, and im currently like 99% done with building a recording studio in my basement to start work as a voice actor

i’ve never blown up an internet forum but i know some people thought i was pretty annoying on one when i was a kid

my favorite consoles are the dreamcast (for fun memories i don’t really play it anymore) and the nintendo ds. in order that i got the consoles my favorite games are: secret of mana, persona 2 ep, phantasy star online, persona 3, dragon quest ix, fire emblem awakening, and then i really didn’t play anything until bloodborne. and then i really didn’t play anything until yakuza 7.

i guess the weirdest old game i sunk a ton of time into was castle of the winds, which was this roguelike on a cd-rom with five! hundred! games! that my dad got at costco when i was little.

i really like the band los campesinos!

i really really love discworld books and hope to play one of the playstation games someday

i watch a lot of slop on tv, i don’t take it too seriously. i really like the episode of the bear called forks. i used to tell people my favorite movie was the lives of others but idk if that’s even true anymore.

i have two cats, they’re great and good. i just got back from the uk and i had a horrible time.

i think i realized video games did something narratively that couldn’t be done in other mediums when i stopped being mad at not being able to control my party members in the first release of persona 3 and had to like uhhhh get to know them and be forgiving of when they screwed up.

too much? probably? anyways hi forever

I liked this game but I didn’t like how the avatar had no legs, so I figured out how to replace the graphics with ones I drew using an icon editor.

My man! Been slowly picking my way through those since 2016. I think Pratchett changed me as a person in a few ways. I’m putting off the last 10 or so books because I know there will never be another.

Always nice to meet a fellow Discworld fan! Clearly your visit to the UK was horrible as it’s nothing like that and that’s a disappointment.

If you’re going to play the games, which are fantastic, may I recommend the
ScummVM versions. You can of course play with a mouse on the PS1, however I found recently when decideding which version to replay and trying both, that the PS1 stutters more than I remember it (Granted I played it on release so it’s been a while). If you’re going to enjoy it, do it right!

I DON’T KNOWWWWW, I really don’t think I’d do well in Ankh Morpork, even for a day visit lol

I am writing down your recommendation and am very eager to see if i can get one going on my steam deck. especially interested in the noir one with the werewolf mechanics

I would take Ankh-Morpork for a week, just for the experience. And the smell. Like London!

Regarding the steam deck you’re in luck. There’s a few topics around about people who have them, or want to get one, and are happy to share their experiences (myself included):

ScummVM will run the first two fine, Noir is a problem but if you hunt around enough to find the right image you can play it no problems at all!

Hey everyone, I’m Bungis.

I hate social apps but want to hang out and share interests so the IC forum looks like a decent spot for this!

I’m a British expat, now living in Australia. I’m not old, but not young either. The first console I solely owned was a Game boy Advance and my favourite game was ‘Medabots: Metabee and Rokusho’ Rokusho version.

I work in tech on the product / support side but am switching part time to get a CompSci degree and move into development. An ambitious move at a bad time but I’ve got the passion to make it work (Check on me in 5 years).

I feel like my game tastes are better represented here, I’m not into online stuff so much. I just want good single player experiences that were thoughtfully designed and that’s seemingly harder to find these days.

Yeah buddy. That’s the pup (10 year old man). His name is Toby. Rescued New Orleans street dog and sweetest big baby.

Hiya! My name’s Tammy. I’m non-binary, autistic, disabled & queer which probably isn’t particularly noteworthy round these parts :) they/them pronouns fyi!! I am, unfortunately, English.

IC has been a core part of my ‘outsourcing the stream of consciousness’ rotation for years. Ash joining as a regular recently has been revelatory in terms of feeling a warmth & openness that wasn’t absent before, but has been drawn to the surface & made me think ‘maybe I should join a forum for the first time in well over a decade’. Discord has always been way too overwhelming for me, but as a v socially isolated person I do yearn for more connection. So, hi!

I’m a photographer, both analogue & digital, with an accidental focus on street & urban landscape cause it’s just what I happen to live around. My pfp is a shot on lomochrome turquoise! I began shooting as a way to combat agoraphobia (something I still live with, finding it v difficult to leave a small radius of my flat) and now I spend hours every day walking about with my camera. I chiefly use vintage & manual focus lenses because I (autistically) enjoy the tactile, mechanical experience.

I’m also a writer, though adhd nonsense has strangled my concentration span somewhat in the past few years. Probably the last thing I was proud of writing was this essay on Animal Crossing in the wake of New Horizons being released: the silly title is a nod to Insert Credit but it’s also kinda serious!! I have a background in Romantic poetry & reading lyrical ballads as a young teen made me an abolitionist lol

When it comes to games, I’m a big jrpg person with roots in playing FF IV on the GBA as a kid, though dragon quest is more my style as an adult. My ‘get to know me’ games are more in the dreamcast & gamecube style tho, with Phantasy Star Online being perhaps the most important game in my personal history. I am very, very vibes based.

I’m playing through YS Nordics atm; just finished reading ‘the Bog Wife’ (a recent gothic novel about ancestral & family trauma which i highly recommend); am listening to a great deal of Waxahatchee and, as usual, the Mountain Goats.

Hope that wasn’t too much! Looking forward to hanging out & engaging more :)

Welcome!

While I never really got to the point of calling myself a photographer, my dad is one, and I’ve long had a particular love for analogue photography from working in a photo lab for several years. Always happy to see folks still using film out there!

We’ve even got a photography thread you might enjoy: Insert Credit: Photo Mode

The Mountain Goats are part of my daily listening, do you have a favorite album? I haven’t put on any Waxahatchee in awhile, though, I should fix that…

oh rad, thanks for pointing the thread out!! I’ve only just started getting into darkroom stuff myself after a couple years sending film off to a local lab & it’s very fulfilling - working in one must have been a rly interesting experience, being in contact with so many other people’s intimate experiences on a regular basis! I think I call myself a photographer as a direct challenge to my constant habit of devaluing my own worth & creative work (and also cause I’m disabled & unemployed lol so it gives me something to say).

Re. tMG my absolute favourite album changes regularly but it’s generally between Get Lonely, the Life of the World to Come, and We Shall All Be Healed - ‘Against Pollution’ is maybe my favourite song ever written. How about you?

It was a retail-facing lab so I don’t have proper darkroom experience for photographic film. We used a dark boxes for properly handling the film instead. Much of the rest applies, though, and I was incredibly sad when the store I was in eventually closed down their retail labs. I kept a box of control strips for our film processor as a memento, even, though I’m not sure what happened to it

I have done a little darkroom developing at my dad’s business making color density guides for lithographic printing, though, and liked the work quite a bit because I got a lot of time to myself in the darkroom with headphones on. which I suppose brings me to…

I love all of these—there are only one or two of the early cassette releases that I don’t care for in the entire catalogue, honestly, but that’s neither here nor there. It’s a tough question to answer for me: Tallahassee is their most important album to me because it got me through some difficult times, but for the longest time my favorite was All Eternals Deck. These days I’d probably actually say my favorite is Jenny from Thebes, but I’ve long had a strong affinity to and soft spot for Jenny

As I finished writing that sentence, “Against Pollution,” actually came up on shuffle, coincidentally enough! I’ve always had a fondness for this one, but my personal favorite song will probably forever be “Minnesota”
