@“Fishie”#p131964 haha i did, that's how i learned this fact
here‘s a confession i think it’s stupid that english-speakers call the game yume nikki “yume nikki,” it just means dream diary, it's easily translatable, just call it “dream diary”
I never played the game Yume Nikki, and assumed that Yume was a character's name.
I never played the game Yume Nikki, and assumed that Nikki was a character’s name.
yummy nicholas
For a long time I thought Yume Nikki was Mirai Nikki.
I still think Mirai Nikki is Yume Nikki
I thought Mirai was a characters name.
pocky & rocky is not very fun for me
@“Tradegood”#p131974 i did play about an hour of Yume Nikki 15 or so years ago and until this moment i thought “Yume Nikki” was the main character's full name.
@“DavidNoo”#p132059 you should watch Mirai no Mirai
I confess that I could not care less about Charles Martinet and Mario's voice. Mario was fine with no voice at all.
One of the games I worked on made enough money from microtransactions on a weekly basis to fund our studio's yearly operating budget (it was not a small studio, though part of a cluster of studios under the same publisher).
Sales data from third-parties like NPD is practically useless; it may have been better when retail was the focal point (I was not in the industry before the 2010s). One of the figures I saw for a game I worked on underestimated its sales by 250% (and it was a pretty big game; you'd suppose data is even worse for smaller games where the underlying sample may correlate less).
I am a SERIAL buttonmasher. Dmc yakuza street fighter you name it i mash it.
I basically belong in permanent cat jail with all of my video game sins
If you ever want to hear them you can hit me up on Discord and I'll tell ya. I'm also on bsky.
I don’t understand stagger mechanics in action rpgs and at this point I’m too afraid to ask. So I’m attacking, and then they get staggered… and I keep attacking?
@“Andy B”#p135539 generally speaking you have weaker moves and some that increase stagger. Once the enemy is staggered you unleash your big moves that eat up all your MP or AP or whatever. Like in FF7R you'll do your usual attack and stagger attacks but save your limit breaks when enemies are staggered.
It just makes combat feel more tactical. Cool for ARPGs, less cool for more character actioney games imo.
@“MovingCastles”#p135540 Thank you. That explains it for me. It feels like one of these newish mechanics that gives me the illusion of gameplay. Like I am just doing what the game wants me to do.
@“Andy B”#p135874 yeah that‘s a bit of a downside with the stagger mechanics is that it limits your options a bit. I mean I think it worked well with FF7R because the combat encounters kept you on your toes. It’s slower paced and makes you think more. Doesn't work as well in a FF16 because why limit options in a action(adjacent) game.
That being said did the original FF7 have that many options anyway? Like why cast Fire 3 or Ultima if your basic attack does 9999 damage anyway?
