edit: yeah, I've been drawing a lot of Moon Fan Art lately. So much in fact that someone paid me to do this on Twitter.

@SuperEffective#22583 Possibly the most unexpected mashup of all time
@treefroggy#22590 I'm planning a squirtle squad drawing next for sure.
So listen I know this isn’t exactly fan art but I’m kind of proud of it and wanted to share.

I’m gonna be honest my real reason for learning to do this is so I can draw pinups
@CidNight#22849 I really dig the little detail of the nail! Have you done any inking of your drawings?
@SuperEffective#22853 yeah it’s funny! This is an interpretation of a famous pinup by Gil Elvgren and the nail is there in the original. His works almost always included humor like that. I really have only ever used pencil - and for the most part, just one pencil (2H). I want to start expanding a bit though! I suppose inking my graphite drawings would be a good place to start.
For Christmas I got a canon ivy cliq+ camera that spits photos out like a polaroid. It also prints from my phone which is the coolest freakin thing ever. And the photos are on sticky paper so I've been using the thing mostly to make stickers.
The Espio I did for the art jam is in this format and here it is on my bulliten board:

SegaSonic sticker:

A Destiny emblem I did for the wife:

And not fan art, but I think it's my favorite... I did this for my roommate of his cat, Kumo:

i didn't intend it when i painted it but whenever i look at this now i consider it Super Mario fan art
@wickedcestus#22959
This reminds me of the first Dark Souls as well! Mostly the bridge between Undead Parish and Sen's Fortress
Im really into the treatment of the fabric in the second drawing! Its so flowy and has a nice wispy feel to it. Theres a lot if charm to these here pinup gals.
@SuperEffective#23062 wow, thanks!
Okay so another “go easy on me” offering. This is my first time ever making an original character without copying. I used one of those little human figure mannequins as an aid.
@CidNight#23138 just a suggestion re figure drawing: I found it helpful to practice with charcoal rather than graphite. Helped force me to think through and draw more fluid lines while also being more controllable than ink. It’s fun you'd probably like it.
@yeso#23139 I have some charcoal at home but have been sort of afraid to try it. They're just so danged permanent!
@CidNight#23140
Is it Vine Charcoal by any chance? If it is, it comes off alright with a kneaded eraser.
edit: Also, that drawing is pretty good for your first original character! I don't really have much more to suggest because almost always, my suggestion is always just to keep drawing more stuff :P
yeah that’s what’s helpful about it. Just buy a big cheapo newsprint pad. The broader line you get from charcoal also helps iron-out shakiness or scratchiness. Don’t want to rattle your method too much though since you're obviously doing well and improving all the time
@SuperEffective#23141 yeah gum eraser will pick up charcoal
@SuperEffective#23141 I’m not sure what kind. It came in the same sort of kit that the graphite pencils came in. One of those “250 art supplies” in a plastic blister package sort of things. I’m sure it’s the cheapest junk in the world. But it makes lines on paper so I can’t complain!
@yeso#23142 I think the best thing is to keep pushing myself and trying new things to get better, so I’m not too worried about messing with the method. I’m trying to draw all sorts of things (only certain things fit the briefs of the threads here unfortunately) and I’ve been eager to start messing around with charcoal and watercolors and whatever else I can get my hands on.
and thank you both for the words of encouragement and advice! I’m sure you all know how much that means when you’re trying something new and sometimes the confidence waxes and wanes. It means a great deal to me.
