@āpattheflipā#p149122 This is so sick!!! I read the original From Masher to Master when I first started playing fighting games four years ago. As someone who prefers reading to watching videos, it was an invaluable resource. Excited to read/recommend the new one!
hey thatās great! FMtM originally started out as an insert credit article so iām always glad to see it pop up here from time to time.
@āhellomrkearnsā#p147702 That was dope, honestly.
Iām playing this so far and will have my time with it, but so far Iām enjoying it more than the beta itself. There are some characters I tried that fit me like a glove now, but I'm going to explore this a little bit longer.
What it seems is that Dragunov can truly mess people up. I've tried several characters I enjoyed a lot (Jin, Hwoarang, Reina, Azucena, Jun is my favorite atm), but he's going to be a menace. I've seen JCDR putting insane amounts of pressure that can be eased by sidestepping, but hell, not only he's unrelenting, he also feels satisfying to use.
For anyone who wants to try the game, there's a really nice guide on who to main in Tekken 8:

Just played my first two matches of Tekken 8 online. First match I got completely bodied. No rematch.
Second match was really hard fought and it came down to a sliver of health in the final round and I managed to win. There we so many up and downs and it was a great set of rounds. I literally jumped out of my chair with my (iron) fist in the air.
We rematched and had another great few rounds and it was another close victory for me. Buzzing. I feel so alive. Is this what cocaine is like?
Ended the evening having had a great time but not a great win rate. I'm really struggling with my own poor habit of attacking all the time and not knowing what to about players that are blocking me a lot.
The tutorial goes on about how aggression is what Tekken is all about but it seems to me that it is all about blocking and then punishing. I need to get better at taking a breath and then doing a throw or a low attack.
This game is not only my first Tekken, but my first 3D fighter, so Iām with you. Feels like learning fighting games all over again the way I struggle to land combo starters lol. And I couldnāt even count all the times Iāve forgotten and then remembered I can sidestep
Damn, now I want to play online matches. Gotta thanks Microsoft for making me pay more money for the Game Pass Ultimate.
As for the matches, I still have to learn the basics, specially dashing and other things. I may stick for the haul, but atm Iāll try different characters and observe. So far I think Iāll stick with several between Jin, King, Jun, Hwoarang, Reina, Azucena, Dragunov or Victor. Letās see, although I think there are several characters that have some really nice juice going (like Feng), but Iāll think I'll start with Jin, Reina and Jun and see where this is going.
@"Chopemon"#p150363 It partially is, but I also feel that in very high defensive matches chip damage and throws end up making you feel more aggresive. I feel most people are struggling with that learning curve, because it forces you also to analyze and try other characters and know more or less what they can use against you.
Whoās everyone playing in Tekken? Iāve rooted myself in bear country. I play Kuma mostly, but Panda when I'm feeling cute
@āKingTubbā#p150675 I have yet to decide, but if I'm going to be honest the one that fits me like a glove, Jin aside, is Hwoarang. He and Xiaoyu feel to me like a lot to their T3 counterparts.
@āKingTubbā#p150675 I canāt decide! So far Iāve mostly split my time between Raven and Reina, but every time I try a new character I find something I like.
I recently downloaded Street Fighter V (Champion Edition) on PS4 because it was the only mainline numbered entry I hadnāt played. I can get why this one is usually considered a pretty weak entry in the series. Even the day 1 lack of content debacle aside, this one just feels chunkier than it should and the graphics look like bright clay sometimes, so I donāt love them. I do like some of the new weird characters, though (G, Menat, Zeku, and-- as a big Final Fight 3 fan-- Lucia).
I messed around with arcade mode vs. CPU. On āeasy,ā it was pointlessly easy. On āmedium,ā it was pointlessly easy. On āhard,ā it was way too damn hard for me. None of that really bothered me until I realized that the load times for this game on PS4 are just awful. Sometimes a whole minute or more between matches. This is probably more of a PS4 problem than really being SFVās fault, but it definitely didnāt help endear me to the game.
I closed out of the game and deleted it off my PS4. Maybe Iāll fire it back up next time I want to throw some orbs with Menat.
SFV was my first fighting game where I jumped in after purely being a spectator since around 09-10 and I was a little upset at how bad it was around launch. Put in around 80 hours and never went back since its major overhauls. Iāve been meaning to but have been way more into 6 recently. I agree that V just has an unappealing graphical style in general, I donāt think fighting games need to look much better than SF4 or Guilty Gear Xrd.
