Buy this man a Pizzer…

This is a team effort, so pizzers for all!

I don’t know how people feel about anchovies on pizza so sharing may be tough. That and the delivery charge might be a bit high…

Sorry I’ve not updated much, been working through the What’s that game (easy mode) topic including all the images as well, so that’s done. We’re still a long way to go, but every day a bit closer

Added bonus, I got to watch all seven Alien films in release order and will put them in order of how I liked them:

Alien
Alien Resurrection
Alien 3
Alien Covenant
Prometheus
Aliens
Alien Romulus

I’m taking new recommendations on films to watch. So far I’ve watched more this year than I have in the past three years. Remember there’s no bad recommendations.

Mostly.

P.S. I genuinely feel bad for putting Romulus at the bottom of that list, because David Jonsson’s performance as Alan was fantastic, he carried the entire film on his shoulders - but everything else was just so clearly trying to “reboot” the franchise into something new and it didn’t need to be. It’s the only one I’ve seen once, but I have no desire to watch it again for a new opinion on it.

Also within 30 minutes I wanted the aliens to win!

Since you’ve watched the Alien movies, it seems natural to watch Predator. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT watch the complete Predator filmography. If you’ve seen that then, uhh watch the other good Contra box art movie, First Blood. If you’ve seen that then I got no clue… how about Sunset Boulevard for no particular reason.

I like this idea. I got into the idea of watching the Alien series having started with some random 80s movies - and I know the series only had one film released in the 1980s but I had an urge to watch them again - so Predator seems a good fit. What I remember of Predator is that I didn’t need to think a lot about it, and those kinds of films are perfect sometimes!

Predator is on the Mt. Rushmore of brain-off movies.

Well Operation Broomstick is still going - after a small break from everyone because it’s a lot of work! I’ll update the numbers in a bit, but right now want to say a huge thank you to you all for putting up with the insane amount of notifications you may be seeing when posts and edited!

To help with that, there is a way to specifically see notifications so you can hide the edited ones and not miss out on likes, replies and messages. On your notification bar there are a few icons down the side, so here’s what they do:

I added the text so don’t be worried if you don’t see that!

You can specifically choose a grouping and see only the notifications related to that. For example you’ve recieved a lot of edit notifications, just click on any of the other icons away from the All or Other notifications and you’ll only see those. Bookmarks takes you to the topics you’ve bookmarked directly.

It’s not ideal, as we can’t remove notifications for edits as they’re part of the tool, but at least this way if you have received a lot of notifications, you can somewhat exclude them and not miss important notifications on the forum.

And if you go to your personal notification page, you can Dismiss All and then go back in and see what you want, so you don’t have multiple unread ones at the top.

It’ll pick up next week on edits so wanted to make everyone aware that while this is happening, normal service can resume. Well as normal as IC can be!

Thanks again to you all for your patience.

=)

The most recent time I have rated a film I’ve watched a full 5-stars is in September when I watched Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev, so I guess I’ll recommend that.

My pleasure on the work, but I cannot take thanks for Alien: Resurrection - luckily the newer films seem to get worse and worse, so in that instance they’re doing the work for me!

I shall try and give that a go, but as my Russian is pretty damn bad it seems like the kind of film, especially with a 5 star review that deserves my full attention and not while doing something else.

Predator though is perfect for it. I’m halfway through it and I couldn’t tell you what has happened at this point. Except that if I was 12 again, this would have been the greatest movie in the history of cinema!

Ah – then the most recent full 5-star review that one can watch without dedicating full attention would be My Dinner With Andrei. As long as you can listen, you’ll be getting most of the experience. (edit: note – the film absolutely deserves a fully-attendant viewing, but one can get away with it)

A more recent 5-star review that perhaps you can get away with putting on since you understand French (I assume?) is La Haine.

More traditional film fare that gets full points from me that could work well while you are otherwise distracted are Contact, Children of Men, and Blade Runner. Others, also, but that’s probably enough for now!

I have actually seen all of those before, but could rewatch a few! It is a more listening and glancing over experience, so My Dinner with Andre is probably the best suited.

Blade Runner I know too well but would hate to miss a scene there. But if you happen to know where I can find the San Diego sneak preview cut, I’d be forever grateful!

the workprint? I have it on DVD, as part of a 5-disc collection that contains that, US & International theatrical, Directors, and Final cuts.

…I like that film.

Summary

I don’t have any way to rip it as none of my computing devices have optical drives anymore. sorry.

No it’s not that one, it’s one that was shown once in the cinema in 1982 and contains three scenes never seen in another edition since:

The workprint was the version before that, the above being the second then the third one being the US cinema release. Yes there’s six, and said box you have (I used to have it as well) only contains five.

Me too!

We still have a long way to go, but it’s quite a milestone and deserves big letters. Here’s a few more:

  • 2,000 images
  • A countless number of youtube videos (mostly because I didn’t start counting them at the beginning)
  • The entire What’s the game easy mode topic

Extra help is always welcome, so if you want to join the cool club please let the mod team know. Thank you all for your patience and help on this one.

Just to add on to Tom’s post – if there are any threads that you all want to put priority around let us know!

One thing I have noticed while doing this exercise is just how quickly a lot of stuff ends up disappearing from the internet - a lot of images, tweets, youtube videos, etc. from even a year ago are unfortunately unrecoverable. Since we are moving a lot of the broken imgur images here, if there’s stuff you want to save we’d encourage you to join in the cleanup! We have browser extension that helps things go faster, so don’t be intimidated!

Also – next thing I plan to tackle are the podcast show threads, so brace yourselves if you’re someone who comments in those during the years of 2021-2024

It’s been a while, but Operation Broomstick is still ongoing. While the amounts of edits may not have been as frequent as before, they’re still happening and the forum is cleaner every day!

As of today, just over 13,000 posts have been cleaned up with their mentions - which is just over 28% of all edits needed. On top of that there’s been over 3,000 imgur files cleaned up and various other images, youtube videos, lists and other goodies (I don’t have counts of the starts of the others, so not sure how many there are!) are looking even more beautiful.

If anyone wants to offer some time to help, it would be appreciated. While we have a few people working on it, there’s no maximum amount of members of the cool club :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
