Joke Weapons in Games

I like it when video games have weapons that are clearly just there to be silly, it makes my heart happy ^^ Please share any joke weapons you’re fond of, I’d love to see more!

I’ll kick us off with the Rune Factory series which has a whole bunch!
Short swords:

Long swords:

Spears:

Axe and hammer:

Dual blades:

I think double back scratchers is my favourite weapon in the whole series, they took a good joke from Rune Factory 2 and in 3 were like…we can double down on this haha
Gloves:

Staves:

I’m definitely noticing some food and meme theming, good stuff. I know Rune Factory Tides of Destiny had some too but I’m having trouble finding photos online so that’s all for now!

Your turn!

In the secret dev room in Highlander for Jaguar CD you can get the secret best weapon in the game which is a rubber chicken. It makes a boyoyoyoing sound when you use it and ruins the ambience. Pretty good.

Absolutely incredible, huge fan of exactly this. Wow. Rubber chicken with sound effects even more egregious than The Egg Beep from Earthbound <3

(also you can timestamp youtube videos on mobile you just have to do it manually. Copy the URL and type “&t=[number of minutes you’re at]m[number of seconds you’re at]s” so for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkRpoVV8RUE&t=3m47s hope this helps! why there isn’t just a button like on desktop I have no idea)

I knew about the manual time stamping but couldn’t remember it and felt too lazy to look it up ;_;

So thanks!

In Mace: The Dark Age, you can unlock Ned, the janitor, who is a reskin of another character. He fights with a pushbroom.

@Not-Charlie Wow! I’m noticing a lot of tuna weapons, which is interesting because I feel like if a fish were to be a weapon, I’d expect a swordfish xD Must be named something else in Japanese, huh?

@Death_Strandicoot As a custodian myself this is excellent news! I love joke characters in fighting games too, I wonder if that could be its own thread or part of this one?

Tuna-as-a-weapon Thread
Tuna can be wielded in Jackie Chan Adventures for the Playstation.
Also for the Playstation, it’s always fun to remember Aerith’s best weapon in FFVII is an umbrella.

Yeah there’s no shortage of tuna

I couldn’t remember the others. All I could remember is Cloud’s nail bat. If FF7R3 doesn’t have a nail bat that’s a missed opportunity.

debated whether this counts or not but i think it does. after completing Red Faction: Armageddon once you unlock Mr Toots: a unicorn that shoots plasma out of its butt. you fire it by pulling back on its tail

Nail Bat was in FFVIIR-1 dude!
It’s like I’ve been saying all along— they nailed it!

Dark Cloud also has a frozen tuna!

And, somewhat adjacent i guess is Jogurt from Shining Force. First time i found him i figured he had to secretly be the strongest character in the game, but nope. He’s just a funny little guy.
He’s permanently at level 1.
Even if he somehow gets 100 exp, he “levels up” to level 1, which i think is a pretty wonderful joke.

@Skellingtor I would love to see how this debate went cuz to me that’s totally a joke weapon XD It kinda reminds me of the part in sayonara wild hearts where you’re surfing on neon throw up?? Not a joke weapon but similar vibes there haha

@mtvcribs I love Jogurt wow. Thank you for introducing me ;u; Leveling up from level 1 to level 1. That’s like when Kirby “levels up” after beating Computer Virus in Super Star hahaha
