Looking at the spreadsheet, we’ve got everything from Spectrum games on there to Minecraft to recent weird stuff.
I do think there’s an awkward middle ground around PS3/360 and beyond exclusive games. Because some of those games never left those platforms and emulation is in an awkward place for those (last I checked). My personal standard would be “the game has a steam version (or some other accessible PC version, thinking of Outrun 2 and Marathon) or can be emulated by a five year old laptop”. So I think PS2 and PSP are fine!

We’re live with May’s thread, 104 !

140 is a challenging minimalistic platformer with abstract colorful graphics. Rhythmic awareness is required to overcome obstacles controlled by an energetic, yet melancholic electronic soundtrack.
Available on lots of things at a pretty low price:
Steam
Switch
PSN
Xbox
Nominated by @Tradegood , here’s what they have to say about it:
140 is a minimalist rhythm-based indie platformer from 2013. It’s very elegantly designed and clever in execution. Check it out.

I rolled the die and here’s where it landed:
Which means we’re playing Link’s Awakening :
June 2024’s game selection for the Monthly Game Club is The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening!
I nominated it, and here’s what I had to say about about the submission:
It’s beloved, seems a little weird, it’s inspired by Twin Peaks, and I haven’t gosh darn played it!

It was originally released on the Game Boy in 1993, got a DX version for Game Boy Color, and somewhat recently received an entire remake on the Nintendo Switch.
What do you know about this game, anything interesting?…
I also cleared the spreadsheet for a fresh start, as some folks suggested!
Time to submit some new games! (And it’s absolutely okay to submit games that were previously submitted but haven’t gotten chosen yet.)

Clearing the spreadsheet is a great idea! Everybody nominate something! Don’t think too hard about it!

I threw on the first game that came to mind. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yup today! I’ll get the new thread launched here soon and role a dice to pick the game.

Just want to say that I think it’s cool how we have almost no platform overlap on the list right now

That means that July 2024’s game is The Guardian Legend , nominated by @Chekhonte ! Getting the thread going now.
Thread is live at:
July 2024’s Monthly Game Club is: The Guardian Legend developed by Irem for the Nintendo Entertainment System, originally released in Japan for the Famicom in 1988. Known in Japan as Guardic Gaiden.
Nominated by @Chekhonte , here’s what they had to say about it:
I don’t think a lot of people played it. It’s a shmup with a zelda like overworld and RPG elements. It’s also not that long.

August 2024’s game is…
Mad TV nominated by @Mnemogenic !
Jump on over to the new thread:
August 2024’s Monthly Game Club is Mad TV for Amiga, MS-DOS, and Atari ST!
Nominated by @Mnemogenic , here’s what they have to say about it:
I played this game for the first time last year and it really stuck in my head because I found it fun to play, but impossible to do well at. Maybe if we put our heads together, we can crack it. Or we can just swap stories about how our stations are failing and we’re airing Citizen Kane three times a day because it’s public domain.

wait why is it only a d11 roll?
There was a purge of the list a couple months ago in the name of starting fresh:
So there are currently only 11 games on the list.

Well then.
I sure missed that, and I have to imagine others did also – or there’d be more than 11 games on the list!
(also that’s somewhat of a “get rekt, loser” to everyone that had things on the list for a long time. oh well)
I think part of the idea was that there were several games on the list from people who no longer hang out here and it might be awkward if one of those gets picked. I imagine there would be no issue if somebody wanted to put a game back on the list.

I only see 10 games on the list, as the top line is the headers. Also, last month’s game is one of those 10.
I’m curious what would have happened if it rolled a 1 or a 7.

You’re totally right, I counted too fast.

I count the header in the rolls so I don’t have to do math. And if it lands on 1 I just re-roll.
