Oof, yeah. Wouldn’t want that, especially with the length of some posts.
I’m on iPhone safari and I came to this thread because I can’t see a difference between read and unread threads. Also the font seems smaller. I hadn’t noticed that I can scroll left and right on the main page but I checked and I can. Just a millimeter or so.
I’ve also been having this problem recently. I’m not sure why it’s happening
Forum vs forums was just me mistyping my message, it’s the same normal forum page that doesn’t work with mobile data
Sorry I did see this but wanted to get the message out about the new issues appearing since the upgrade.
Weird one without an initial idea. Can you view this: https://meta.discourse.org/ (discourse forum)
And when you try to access the forum via 5g, what errors if any do you get?
I’m having the same problem and was able to access meta.discourse.org on my 5G connection just fine, but these specific forums give me a “connection has timed out” error
I was able to connect to them once a couple of days ago, so I thought the issue had resolved itself, but then it started happening again
Nothing springs to mind why it behaves like that!
Odd one, but could you try another browser on your phone? It’s along shot, but maybe something is cached somewhere and causing it.
Another thing to try is logging out when you’re on Wi-Fi and then trying to connect again, see if you can get the front page not logged in.
I’m kinda clutching at straws on this one!!!
It does seem to work through Chrome (as opposed to Firefox, which I normally use), though it hung long enough in loading the site that I thought it was also going to time out
Clearing my cache and cookies doesn’t seem to fix the issue in Firefox, so it seems to be specific to that browser for some reason
I have the same exact problem! have to use the website on safari…
Firefox seems to not like our forum sometimes!
I’ll make notes and give it till the weekend, also to see if there’s updates to the build of Discourse which may fix it. If not I’ll reach out to the team to let them know the problems everyone’s having.
Thank you for letting us know and being patient on this!
Echoing that I’m having some of the same problems. Read threads no longer display with dimmer text, front page scrolls left and right a bit. iOS Safari.
The forums load quickly for me (Android, Firefox) but I also have the problem where read threads display with the same text color/style as unread threads.
I want to recap the issues people are having, so I can spend some time looking around for either fixes or prepare to contact Discourse about them. So far we have:
- Topics appearing as unread (text is still marked in bold and white, not grey) on all mobile devices - any OS/Browser combination seems to have the same behaviour.
- All pages are not appearing as the correct size on some mobile devices, and a scroll bar is appearing horizontally - this appears to be exclusive to OS/all browsers only
- Connection issues when using 5G (this seems to be a a very small user count, so maybe nothing can be done but want it noted in case there’s something out there to fix it)
If anyone has anything new to add please let me know, but do not confirm if you have any of the above as this are all known issues.
The main Discourse forum has a lot of people with problems since the new build, so I want to wait at least until the weekend before contacting them to see if an update will fix anything above.
Thanks everyone for your patience on this one. I appreciate navigating the forum on mobile devices is causing some problems and hope to have it running properly very soon.
Quick update
I did some testing and if you are on a mobile device, you will be able to use the forum if you access it in safe mode. The url is the same, but with /safe-mode at the end of it. Going to that URL you will see the following page:
Leave the top three boxes checked and do not check the last one. Then click on “Enter Safe Mode”.
You will be taken to the safe mode page and it will now appear like this:
Not ideal, but at this point it means we can establish there’s a theme issue and will help get to the root of the problem.
If anyone is using OS/Any browser, can you please check if the scrolling issue appears as well.
Safe mode appears to have fixed the unread threads issue for me, and I can no longer scroll sideways. This is on iOS safari, I’m not sure what “OS/Any browser” means so not sure if this is info you’re looking for or not.
That’s exactly what I needed thanks, I’m using android with chrome and found the issues with the read topics went away in safe mode. Needed a test on OS with a browser to make sure the behaviour changed as well both for that topic issue and the scrolling.
Update
The read topics issue appears fixed - I’ve tested it both on my mobile and using the mobile view on my desktop and all apearing as expected.
Can anyone using OS check with any browers to confirm if the issue with scrolling has also gone as well please?
Tom, are you getting auto-corrected out of typing “iOS” or do you mean something else?
Haven’t followed all the issues/updates closely, but the site is working normally again on my phone. iOS/Safari user.
No I mean iOS. I just didn’t type the i out of force of habit haha
