This is **gorgeous**. Great work!

Guy on the left looks like a lot of fun. What ever happened to him? 🤔

I live in central LA now, Downtown, fashion district.

I'm within 3ish miles of Little Tokyo, a bunch of arcades and stuff.

Besides meetups, let me know any suggestions of stuff to check out.

I know little tokyo pretty well already (used to do freelance repairs & mods for the japanese-owned Retro Game Camp, which unfortunately closed and is now WORLD 8-2...) and I lived in East Hollywood Virgil Village / LACC area for a while. But really this will be the most time I've spent downtown aside for the occassional event/ crankmob of yore.

@“treefroggy”#p113567 Nice! I used to live in Echo Park! I briefly did some freelance writing for a trade magazine in the fashion district, and its a very different place during the day then at night! It‘s not my favorite place in LA… but there’s cool stuff around there. This meme I saw the other day is kinda true. The yuppies who live/work downtown do know where good lunch spots are.

When I think of Downtown, that gentrified area on Alameda and 3rd is whatever... but there is some good [vegan food](https://maccheronirepublic.com/) and [cool art galleries](https://maccarone.net/) nearby. There is [Smorgasburg LA](https://la.smorgasburg.com/) on the weekends. It's an upmarket fleamarket... because of course the gentrifiers want to turn skid row into Williamsburg. (I'm throwing stones from my glass house) I'm also bummed out to learn that Church and State shut down, that was a cool warehouse brunch spot. But I mean, anything around the fashion district you're going to overpay for everything but that's how it goes unless....

You get some tacos! [Guisados ](https://www.guisados.la/) of course, is the staple, but there are good food trucks too. [Mariscos Jalisco](https://www.mariscosjalisco.net/) if you like fish tacos, i've heard it's the _real_ best tacos in the city. Honestly the secret is any place that [looks like this](https://i.imgur.com/KeBdzEo.jpg) is probably going to be amazing.

Around Chinatown, I also love to take out of towners to [Philippe's](https://www.philippes.com/) for a french dip. I'm a vegetarian so I'll get breakfast or something, but everyone raves about it the dips. Always a long wait tho. Aquarela Coffee in Chinatown is probably your best bet for coffee on that side of the city. But don't get Chinese food in Chinatown, go to Alhambra for[ the good stuff.](https://www.lataco.com/san-gabriel-valley-eat/) It's home to the biggest chinese population in the US.

You should totally set up a stand in in Santee Alley where you can refurbish electronics haha... you could make a killing.

@“Tradegood”#p113656 my best fashion district memory is meeting rebecca sugar, ines estrada, and matt furie at comic arts LA!

I don't go out for food ever! ... Unless there is a secret cat cafe.
Mostly asking for any video game related suggestions! Or general nerdy stuff.

I spent a lot of time in alhambra, had friends there. Love it. I used to live in Whittier, also. lul

Well, there used to be a busted ass arcade on Broadway in one of those 20s theaters turned mega church turned parking lot zones - I was gonna say Broadway and 8th and I looked for an arcade there on Google maps and found arcade familiar - now the lower half of apartments. So… Maybe not. But you're not far from two fully functional zones - eighty two, which is a decent but very popular arcade, and two hit circus which is more of a penny arcade vibe.

You're also close enough to first Fridays which I think still happen with downtown galleries which would be nice. And there used to be a dozen high end thrift shops in the area that sometimes accidentally had good deals. But I haven't spent significant time there for 5 years or so, so my data is old. I'm all east side when I come to la now.

@“exodus”#p113691 yeah the best gamer stuff is in OC now, in my experience

I reviewed Eighty Two here!

If I go to little tokyo, I'll for sure pop into eighty two and see what they have on the floor these days.

Noticed Two Bit Circus scrolling around on gmaps yesterday, I went to indiecade at 2bc back in 2019ish, is there only one location? Yeah I guess I went to this one. (I was staying in OC at the time so it felt like I teleported there)

Also saw there are vintage shops on gmaps, I should definitely thrift around, but honestly, I should mainly hoof it back up to my old stompin' grounds to visit LACC Swap meet again and see old friends, that's where the real epic deals often are.

Honestly, I will probably just stay home hehehhe

If anybody is going to bitsummit, we could do a meetup… at my booth lol. or at zanigani arcade out in the champion district aka shinsekai osaka.

@“exodus”#p120800 I hadn’t heard of the event but I’ll be on full vacation mode by then with a non-poster-but-listener friend visiting from the states and lookin for reasons to hit up hard/bookoffs/surugaya hither and yon. I’ll try to come by at least during one of the public days, might decide to do one or more evenings in Osaka/Kyoto depending on how much we sort out. It’d be rad to say hi, maybe check out that arcade should timing make sense.

Is anyone here by chance going to the Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta next month? Also, if anyone from this forum is nearby and wants to go to a Round1 or other independent arcade, as someone who has recently learned I am likely autistic and have severe social anxiety, I could always use an IRL friend who has the same interests as myself.

@“exodus”#p120800

I have never attended any game-related convention-type of event before, but as it is pretty close to Osaka, maybe I should try going there. ^^

DM me if you are in the NYC area and ever want to hang out, love to meet IC people

@“exodus”#p120800 Oh I‘m going to that! I’ll definitely swing by.

@“exodus”#p120800 I’ll come by the booth on Saturday sometime, hope the setup n all is goin well.

I'll be in Kyoto for work! …On July 20 and 21.

Honk.

@“exodus”#p120800 Swung by the booth, sounds like you didn’t get off the ground, bummer! Enjoyed playin some of the demo, but also just a heads up to anyone else stopping by that there’s no exodus action this weekend in Kyoto lol.

I did get to meet Ian MacLarty and play some Mars First Logistics, suggested he check out Panekit, because if I don’t, who will?

Yeah, sorry to say I instead spent $2300 to stay home! The passport renewal situation is not good in the US right now. Sorry I didn't inform the forum here!

@“exodus”#p124464 Sorry, that stinks!

Portland Retro Gaming Expo is October 13th-15th and I‘m gonna arrange another meetup because the last one was super fun. Let me know if people have an evening they prefer and this time I’ll actually confirm that the bar we're going to is not closed for a private event. (Thankfully @Lunarchivist saved the evening last year.)

Any northeast-Ohioans on here? Anybody?
