Getting dark at around 4:30ish around here in Chicago which means my meditative, life-affirming evening walks are not as good. Do y’all just switch to do those for the sunrise instead or do you just give up on the concept altogether. Complete beginner to real fall/winter stuff if you can’t tell.

of course you will. i love winter.
i always liked winter in the midwest because it’s a good reason to hunker down inside and spend more time with your hobbies. but aside from that i think morning walks are your best bet.
there’s lots of ways to have fun outside in the winter but i hate all of them.

I’m looking forward to it though people I work with don’t believe me or are like heh…let’s see how you feel in January etc (they are probably right). It’s so beautiful outside in the Fall and I think Winter will show me things I have never seen before, so that’s exciting.
Anyways, the sunsets here are super pretty and I can walk to the lakefront, it’s a matter of getting up early enough to see it! I’ve always thought I’d be the person who wakes up most days to watch the sunrise but so far that has just been a dream.

i’m not sure if the lake effect in chicago makes a difference, but this was a real thing for me. there were pockets of sunny days but after a while the grey skies with the bleak rustbelt landscapes would really do a number on me. but of course now that i’m not there i miss that feeling and the beauty that would sometimes come with it.

Still no snow here and it’s weird!!! I saw a few almost invisible crystals falling from the sky a few weeks ago, but certainly nothing that has stayed on the ground. It actually even rained a bunch here yesterday.

First big snow here in Saskatoon on Tuesday! Got my first taste of winter driving, digging cars out of the parking lot, shoveling driveways, all that good stuff. I’m having a blast! We got studded winter tires so I can just rip around in my Nissan Versa no problem.
Check this out! Snow just hanging off the roof of our building. One thing that’s majorly surprised me is the combination of snow and big wind. Our parking lot is sandwiched in between three buildings, so it creates a weird wind tunnel that causes the snow to fall very unevenly. Some cars were covered, and some were totally clear. The wind had blown all the snow into the back of our car and made a mound, so I had to dig myself out in the morning. AND, when I got home from work our space was a big snow drift, while most other spaces were fine.
And I’m still having fun! Love this province!
