Getting dark at around 4:30ish around here in Chicago which means my meditative, life-affirming evening walks are not as good. Do y’all just switch to do those for the sunrise instead or do you just give up on the concept altogether. Complete beginner to real fall/winter stuff if you can’t tell.
I’ll be fine
of course you will. i love winter.
i always liked winter in the midwest because it’s a good reason to hunker down inside and spend more time with your hobbies. but aside from that i think morning walks are your best bet.
there’s lots of ways to have fun outside in the winter but i hate all of them.
I’m looking forward to it though people I work with don’t believe me or are like heh…let’s see how you feel in January etc (they are probably right). It’s so beautiful outside in the Fall and I think Winter will show me things I have never seen before, so that’s exciting.
Anyways, the sunsets here are super pretty and I can walk to the lakefront, it’s a matter of getting up early enough to see it! I’ve always thought I’d be the person who wakes up most days to watch the sunrise but so far that has just been a dream.
i’m not sure if the lake effect in chicago makes a difference, but this was a real thing for me. there were pockets of sunny days but after a while the grey skies with the bleak rustbelt landscapes would really do a number on me. but of course now that i’m not there i miss that feeling and the beauty that would sometimes come with it.
Checking the weather where I live, it appears to be going through some kind of crisis:
It’s going from snow to almost summer in four days!
Still no snow here and it’s weird!!! I saw a few almost invisible crystals falling from the sky a few weeks ago, but certainly nothing that has stayed on the ground. It actually even rained a bunch here yesterday.
Today we are getting like 5mm of rain lol but it’s supposed to snow on Monday.
This is my first time seeing snow since I was a little guy :0
Wait I’m in the northern hemisphere my bad
That’s on me, I just realised this is about summer not winter! Sorry all!!!
I’ll make a new topic about snow for 2024.
Please let normal service resume after my disastrous attempt to move the topics.
Now if you’ll all excuse me, do you want to build a snowman, with me?
todays snow review:
windy, slightly above freezing. Flake quality middling to poor. Grainy, small with directly down and horizontal movement depending on wind gusts. Very little “snowglobe” effect. Poor aesthetics somewhat mitigated by decent overall volume. Perhaps 3" when all is said and done (this only refers to snowfall and nothing else). If forecast for PM rain holds, will be gone overnight. Overall, uncommonly substantial snowfall for November and I feel a mixture of excitement for the new season, relief that it actually happened (climate change), and also just sort of general resentment
