Didn't really know what to say. I told her they released a new game recently. She was shocked to hear that they still made Sonic games. I asked her if she had ever played a Sonic game. "I played one on a website once." I asked her why she was thinking about Sonic. "I don't know. He's cool."

@“Syzygy”#p92285 The difference between this game and Dark Souls, or BOTW or Mario Odyssey or whichever other games people want to compare it to, including previous Sonic games, is that almost everything resembling an idea feels like it‘s already been focus-tested into nothingness before the player could even get to it—it’s not an issue of difficulty or accessibility so much as it‘s very clear that the people making the game never figured out whether it was actually fun or not and demurred to allowing players to consciously or unknowingly opt out of almost every facet of the game, and to making each individual element as facile as possible; the whole game is bandaids on top of bandaids with no glimpse at what might lay underneath, and I don’t doubt that a lot of people find that preferable to Sonic Team‘s usual MO of forcing people to wrestle with extremely unpolished or transparently bad ideas, but I can’t say I found it to be particularly engaging.
