Sonic The Threadhog

I just can’t really get my head around what it is supposed to be yet.

I'm willing to bet that the developers at SEGA could say the same thing.

@“Tradegood”#p50776 Hog of the wild? Breath of the Hog? Maybe just Hedge in the Wild? (Shadow the) Hedgehog of the Colossus?

It really does feel like it's trying too hard to be something it maybe shouldn't? I mean I can possibly get just running around an open world as Sonic as fun for a bit but I also don't expect the "world" to have even half the synergy as what they built with BotW. We'll see I guess?

Allow me to interrupt this Breath of the Hedgehog news with some historic Day-1 thoughts on Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Fur-za Hog-rizon 5

they probably should've just had a team of homebrewers do it.

prediction: this gets delayed by a year and a hastily-assembled, not very good mania 2 fills the gap.

@“Tradegood”#p50776 I am not liking the vibes of this so far. there's barely blue skies! ruined landscapes!? brooding music? @robinhoodie said on twitter they might as well do an acoustic downtempo rendition of “can you feel the sunshine” to this.

ON THE OTHER HAND, they've been messing up "obstacles" sonic for so long, maybe they can actually do a proper run around sonic. (though they've messed that up too in unleashed)

In fact, that sonic 3 thing has them messing up obstacles (the dumb barrels) in 1994

yeah, and meanwhile even i, a casual SAGE observer, has seen a number of pretty cool looking 3d run around sonic fangames that actually get in the zone of a sonic vibe.

@“pasquinelli”#p50840 I‘ve only seen videos, but haven’t actually tried any. Have you? I‘ve had my skepticisms but haven’t wanted to download a thing to put these skepticisms to the test.

I was gonna say the same thing. Having played more than a few fan tech demos of an open world sonic game I am confident about its fun factor if sega can pull it off... Sega has, however, been dropping the sonic ball for a long time so I'm... Pessimistically excited I guess.

I'd give Sonic Utopia a shot! It really nails the open world style of platforming in a very Sonic way. I could easily play a whole game of that style.

Big “this time the Jets picked the right quarterback” energy emanating from this thread! I sincerely admire the enthusiasm but, seeing the bullish promise of a 2022 release in the trailer, I will cautiously bet on: the glimpse of a good idea that will not be given enough time and budget to succeed, as usual.

@“Funbil”#p50801 I guess this would also be the first internet critique on Sonic CD as well. : (

And as always, Game of the Year awards were given too soon.

@“exodus”#p50845 gah, i was in the middle of replying to you when every avenue at my disposal for getting on the internet failed. woof.

anyway, i've only played _srb2_, which isn't what i had in mind. i fully absorbed _sonic adventure_ and _sonic adventure 2_ before i had to admit that i really wasn't i terested in 3d sonics. **but**, aesthetically, the sonic fangames seem to have a better handle on it than this, which honestly looks like sonic model modded into _botw_.

Check out this hand-painted Sonic that was heartlessly abandoned (& rescued) at a North Hollywood Goodwill

I think it was one of those "paint-your-own" kits, but some kid really put some care into this thing. Observe the stripes on the shoes, the fur between the chin and the chest, the lil white gloves, the green eyes. Crafted by a true Sonicist.

12-15 years old?!?!???

Hi all,

So I'm definitely of the Nintendo Generation and have only really played through the Sege Genesis library in retrospective. With the new Sonic movie coming up, I decided to run through the first Sonic game. How does anyone understand Sonic's momentum? I spent most of the time trying to fight when to jump, when to not input and directional controls, etc. Are there any explainers for Sonic's game feel? Because it was a battle and I definitely want to appreciate the game better.
