There are too many videogames. A thread of polls for the indecisive.

I voted for A Short Hike, which is no joke a 90 minute game, but you could dive into LO and then squeeze that little guy out in between sessions easy.

Oh wait, are these games you've already got going?

@connrrr yeah, after looking at the polls I played a bit of A Short Hike and then I dove a little more into Lost Odyssey because I felt like it

@Nate I can see that Earthbound is winning now, so maybe Iā€™ll play it tomorrow

@JoJoestar Oh yeah, Iā€™m in Episode 2 and Iā€™m already past the part that shows what makes the game so cool.
I think there are 2 possible reasons for why Iā€™ve been struggling to ā€œget into the gameā€ (by that I mean reading it with frequency).
1: Maybe itā€™s cause itā€™s a visual novel? I literally started ā€œplayingā€ it by watching the chapters on YouTube (I now ā€œactuallyā€ play it). So it ends up resembling more a TV series or a book, and when it comes to those types of media, I have a lot of struggle in keeping up unless Iā€™m VERY engaged with the story.
2: But most likely, itā€™s just because I feel pressured? My friends introduced the game to me, they tried to get everyone into Umineko, and they were so happy when I told them I was going to start playing it. They always ask me to stream it in our discord server whenever I can. But I donā€™t play it nearly as frequently as I used to, and I end up felling guilty due to it and I think that makes me not want to engage with the game.

If I were in that situation the only way I would be able to enjoy it would be to play it in secretā€”no streaming, no talking to anybody about it. It sounds like thereā€™s too much riding on your responding to it in a particular way, which is just no fun. Find a way to remove guilt from the equation, thatā€™s the pleasure-killer. You should never feel guilty in that way for playing or not-playing a video game!

@captain Thanks. I know I shouldnā€™t blame myself. Iā€™ll focus more on enjoying the game and less on what people think.

I feel like playing a ps1 rpg

@Mnemogenic Koudelka rocks omega hard but itā€™s suuuuch an autumn/halloween game. Wait for the right season! Voted for Wild Arms even though I get the impression I like that game much more than others tend to, lol

I voted Koudelka coz thatā€™s the most Insertcredity of the lot.

Legend of Legaia is cool as hell

The people have spoken, Persona 2 it is.

I feel like a throwback RPG. These are all on my list for this year/soon. Have never played a Dragon Quest so really, start at the beginning and go thru them all or start at 11?

@mack41

ā—‰ I donā€™t think Ys 1+2 is on the Switch? Am I forgetting some port or compilation?
ā—‰ If you play Super Mario RPG, the Switch remake is pretty a great way to experience it. Itā€™s also pretty short for a RPG (around 12-15 hours).
ā—‰ I voted for Dragon Quest XI which is a great throwback RPG in modern clothing and is also perfectly fine as a first time DQ experience.

@Mack41 I voted for DQ1+2, but 11 is also a great way to go if you just want to check out one game before running through all of them. I just wish a little bit that I had started at the beginning for my own reasons, but maybe I wouldnā€˜t have committed to the series if 11 hadnā€™t hooked me so hard? I dunno, they're all good.

@chazumaru ahhh ys youā€™re right itā€™s not on switch. Wishful thinking. I do have a 3DS but have to check the port options for best route there. I have a SNES mini and started Mario RPG on it right before Covid in 2020 but never finished. I did enjoy the game on there but am trying to decide if itā€™s worth finishing/replaying on SNES and eventually seeing the Switch remake or if itā€™s not too essential to bother.

@kyleprocrastinations Iā€™m kind of in the same boat there hah. I like playing things in release order so starting at 1+2 appeals to that side of me. I did play a bunch of SNES RPGs in the last year so the other side of me is thinking itā€™d be fun to see a modern take on that style and XI seems awesome to start with. Or just split the difference and play V on DS. HMMMM too many options. Hoping to make a decision for next weekend!

The only MMO I have ever played was Dragon Quest X back when the first releases of the fan translations were coming out. I didnā€˜t love it. Since then Iā€™ve been thinking about how if I was to play any other MMO itā€˜d probably be Runescape. I also know myself well enough to predict Iā€™ll either fall off hard or it will consume my life. Deciding whether or not to try it out is a weight too heavy for me to bear alone. Help me out

Alright,

@Funbil I canā€™t have this blood on my hands.

@Funbil for the thousandth time, maple story
