There are too many videogames. A thread of polls for the indecisive.

@“captain”#p147159 @Nalbert For what is worth, in 2024 I still consider umineko the best game I've ever played.

I voted for A Short Hike, which is no joke a 90 minute game, but you could dive into LO and then squeeze that little guy out in between sessions easy.

Oh wait, are these games you've already got going?

@“connrrr”#p147180 yeah, after looking at the polls I played a bit of A Short Hike and then I dove a little more into Lost Odyssey because I felt like it

@“Nate#p147133 I can see that Earthbound is winning now, so maybe I'll play it tomorrow

@“JoJoestar”#p147177 Oh yeah, I‘m in Episode 2 and I’m already past the part that shows what makes the game so cool.

I think there are 2 possible reasons for why I‘ve been struggling to “get into the game” (by that I mean reading it with frequency).

1: Maybe it’s cause it‘s a visual novel? I literally started “playing” it by watching the chapters on YouTube (I now “actually” play it). So it ends up resembling more a TV series or a book, and when it comes to those types of media, I have a lot of struggle in keeping up unless I’m VERY engaged with the story.

2: But most likely, it‘s just because I feel pressured? My friends introduced the game to me, they tried to get everyone into Umineko, and they were so happy when I told them I was going to start playing it. They always ask me to stream it in our discord server whenever I can. But I don’t play it nearly as frequently as I used to, and I end up felling guilty due to it and I think that makes me not want to engage with the game.

@“Nate#p147206 2: But most likely, it’s just because I feel pressured?

If I were in that situation the only way I would be able to enjoy it would be to play it in secret—no streaming, no talking to anybody about it. It sounds like there's too much riding on your responding to it in a particular way, which is just no fun. Find a way to remove guilt from the equation, that's the pleasure-killer. You should never feel guilty in that way for playing or not-playing a video game!

@“captain”#p147207 Thanks. I know I shouldn‘t blame myself. I’ll focus more on enjoying the game and less on what people think.

I feel like playing a ps1 rpg

@“Mnemogenic”#p148350 Koudelka rocks omega hard but it's suuuuch an autumn/halloween game. Wait for the right season! Voted for Wild Arms even though I get the impression I like that game much more than others tend to, lol

I voted Koudelka coz that’s the most Insertcredity of the lot.

Legend of Legaia is cool as hell

The people have spoken, Persona 2 it is.

I feel like a throwback RPG. These are all on my list for this year/soon. Have never played a Dragon Quest so really, start at the beginning and go thru them all or start at 11?

@“FaulteredBeast”#p148833

◉ I don’t think Ys 1+2 is on the Switch? Am I forgetting some port or compilation?

◉ If you play Super Mario RPG, the Switch remake is pretty a great way to experience it. It’s also pretty short for a RPG (around 12-15 hours).

◉ I voted for Dragon Quest XI which is a great throwback RPG in modern clothing and is also perfectly fine as a first time DQ experience.

@“FaulteredBeast”#p148833 I voted for DQ1+2, but 11 is also a great way to go if you just want to check out one game before running through all of them. I just wish a little bit that I had started at the beginning for my own reasons, but maybe I wouldn‘t have committed to the series if 11 hadn’t hooked me so hard? I dunno, they're all good.

@“◉◉maru”#p148973 ahhh ys you’re right it’s not on switch. Wishful thinking. I do have a 3DS but have to check the port options for best route there. I have a SNES mini and started Mario RPG on it right before Covid in 2020 but never finished. I did enjoy the game on there but am trying to decide if it’s worth finishing/replaying on SNES and eventually seeing the Switch remake or if it’s not too essential to bother.

@"kyleprocrastinations"#p149003 I’m kind of in the same boat there hah. I like playing things in release order so starting at 1+2 appeals to that side of me. I did play a bunch of SNES RPGs in the last year so the other side of me is thinking it’d be fun to see a modern take on that style and XI seems awesome to start with. Or just split the difference and play V on DS. HMMMM too many options. Hoping to make a decision for next weekend!

The only MMO I have ever played was Dragon Quest X back when the first releases of the fan translations were coming out. I didn‘t love it. Since then I’ve been thinking about how if I was to play any other MMO it‘d probably be Runescape. I also know myself well enough to predict I’ll either fall off hard or it will consume my life. Deciding whether or not to try it out is a weight too heavy for me to bear alone. Help me out

Alright,

@“Funbil”#p150707 I can’t have this blood on my hands.
