A thread in which to introduce oneself

Hello everyone

Been listening to the podcast for a while and been trying to get out of the social media sphere and back into some traditional online spaces.

Gamewise I’m primarily into rpgs and adjacent genres. I’m from Denmark and currently living in Copenhagen. I’m sometimes caught off guard by US cultural standards, so if something seems off then please reach out to me. I am always open to learn something new.

I’m also a sociologist by training and currently work with politics, primarily about science policy and universities.

Looking forward to check out this place.

Welcome to IC.

Thanks for a great introduction and hope you enjoy spending some time in our little part of the digital world.

Please share more on your adjacent genres, as I am sure they’ll be welcome here. And if you fancy some topics to get you started we have a great one about video game mountains, what you got in the mail and of course, what’s that game?

Have fun =)

Welcome neighbor!

If there’s a good place to experience US (and british and mexican and australian and…) gaming culture first-hand it’s here!

What rpg(s) are you currently playing/thinking about?

I really wish US game culture was more like Insert Credit Forums…

We’re all trying to manifest here.

Edit: I would title IC forums as “US gaming culture: the good parts”

Hello folks! My name’s Dalan, but I also go by Val (from the ValiantAMM, itself an amalgamation of abbreviations). I’ve been listening to Insert Credit sporadically for a couple years now; having discovered it by way of Tim’s Action Button videos.

I’m currently returning to college/university at a new institution after being prescribed ADHD meds that seem to let me function at a comparable level to other humans. I’ve wanted to make games since I was a kid after experiencing a game story that particularly resonated with me, so I’m most interested in a position as a game and/or narrative designer. My major doesn’t strongly reflect that (Communications) but we do have some game design classes that I will be taking full advantage of!

In general I came here because I wanted to find some advice on games to play to get a wider experience with the medium of video games and their strengths and weaknesses. This tweet has been rattling around in my head for a week or two so I guess I’d like to start with some older Japanese adventure games if anyone knows of a thread that fits that description! I recently returned from a two month language study in Japan so I also wouldn’t mind it as a way to improve some of my Japanese reading comprehension, but quality translations are always welcome as I’m still only N4 at best.

I tend to bounce around between communities online a lot, but I’ve found myself wanting forum environments more than the very disconnected nature of sites like Twitter and Bluesky, so hopefully you’ll see more of me in the future!

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

I recently build a PC for the first time, so I’m checking out a bunch of pc rpgs that I never had the chance to try.

Currently I’m checking out Fallout New Vegas and replaying Suikoden II on an emulator.

My backlog has completely exploded though.

New Vegas is so cool. It’s been an eternity since I last played it but I have very fond memories of it. I hope you’re having a great time! Feel free to share your impressions in this thread if you feel like it: Here we are again: the thread where we discuss the games we are playing in 2024

Hello everyone, Kiki joined the forum earlier so now I am following in her footsteps. I mainly collect games for the Playstation at the moment, I love controllers and I have too many CRT monitors. Nice to meet you.

Welcome new members @ValiantAMM and @Alicia

There’s loads of great new topics around - of which I see you’ve posted in a few - and no doubt more to come as well.

Have fun =)

Hi!

I started listening to the podcast circa 2014, which surprisingly seems like a long time compared to many of the folks here! The fact that I think 10 years is “not too long ago” probably means I’m officially old. The moment that hooked me was Jaffe’s “take a dic pic” joke at the start of the McLeroy episode, trying to make an anagram out of “The Insert Credit Dot Com PodCast”, which had me uncontrollably laughing in the middle of the office at my at-the-time new job.

I’ve spent the decade since trying to get into a game other than Super Smash Bros. Melee, Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4, StarCraft: Broodwar, or Magic: The Gathering. With the help of the podcast and forum, I’m hopeful I may succeed one day.

(RPG’s and survival horror tend to be the genres which break through. Recently Signalis stuck with me emotionally like few other games have).

Other than that, I enjoy ultimate (think flying plastic disc), cooking, listening to music and having a greyhound.

It is most important that you visit the Dogs thread and prove it.

(I just wanna see all the dog photos. and photos of Cats. and Birds. I’m not yet sold on the Bugs though, I must admit…)

Welcome @Clemente and @Alicia!

Signalis is slotted in my “I know I will enjoy this game when I finally play it” list. I’m looking forward to it!

If you can operate melee, you do not need a game further than melee.
